## Description:
This is a refactor to simplify config handling.
Replaces the per-environment DevConfig/PreprodConfig/ProdConfig class
hierarchy with two static classes: ClientEnv (browser main thread, reads
from window.BOOTSTRAP_CONFIG) and ServerEnv (Node server, reads from
process.env). The four config classes are deleted, the abstract
DefaultServerConfig is gone, and DefaultConfig is renamed to Config.
The values that flow server → client (gameEnv, numWorkers,
turnstileSiteKey, jwtAudience, instanceId) used to be baked into the
hardcoded per-env classes. They're now real env vars on the server,
embedded into a single window.BOOTSTRAP_CONFIG object in index.html at
request time (alongside the existing gitCommit/assetManifest/cdnBase
globals, which moved into the same object), and read back by ClientEnv
on the client. The dev defaults previously hidden inside DevServerConfig
are now explicit in start:server-dev (NUM_WORKERS=2,
TURNSTILE_SITE_KEY=1x..., JWT_AUDIENCE=localhost, etc.) and in
vite.config.ts's html plugin inject.data. Production deploys plumb
NUM_WORKERS and TURNSTILE_SITE_KEY through deploy.yml (GitHub vars) into
the remote env file; JWT_AUDIENCE is derived from DOMAIN in deploy.sh.
The dynamic /api/instance endpoint is gone — INSTANCE_ID rides along in
BOOTSTRAP_CONFIG now.
ServerEnv is the only thing server code touches; ClientEnv is
browser-only. The two classes have intentional overlap (env, numWorkers,
jwtIssuer, gameCreationRate, workerIndex, etc.) since they derive
identical logic from different sources — there's a TODO in each to
consolidate via a shared helper later. The game-logic Config no longer
stores a ServerConfig/ClientEnv reference and its serverConfig() getter
is gone; the one caller (MultiTabModal) now reads ClientEnv.env()
directly. Worker init no longer carries server-config values since
nothing in the worker actually reads them.

## Description:
Starting v32 maps right now!
Adds map of the Middle East. Probably one of the most highly requested
maps.
Very large map (3.4M land pixels, similar to Two Lakes, would become the
2nd or 3rd largest map by land area) of the arabian peninsula and
surrounding regions.
This map has both huge areas of land without water access full of desert
terrain, and massive trade chokepoints, which combined will result in
crazy endgames.
The theme of this map are historical, based on the end of WW1.
Historical flags have been added for the nation NPCs to use.
(High map rotation of 8 since this is probably going to become one of
the most popular maps given the relevancy of the region in real life.)
Terrain source from NASA DEM, already credited.

Add Luna and ArchipelagoSea to the water-nukes-boosted maps set.
Bias Luna games towards 2 teams (75% chance), similar to how FourIslands

Restrict the FourIslands gold multiplier exclusion to team games only,

Regarding Bering Sea and Bering strait maps:

Because of mixed opinions about replacing the maps, i propose at least
this temporary compromise: Bering Sea gets added as a new map and Bering
Strait gets its rotation lowered to a small number. Since the classic
maps are probably being taken off rotation, we should have some small
breathing space for the 2 maps.
In the near future we should discuss between mapmakers in the dev server
whether we keep, replace or completely take Bering Strait off rotation,
and/or a community poll.

This was a proposal in the map channel of the dev discord server:
**Updates the Europe map to include Iceland, and removes Classic Europe
off rotation.** Classic Europe will remain in custom private map list
The only thing the new europe map didnt have from the classic version
was iceland, so i figured we should update the europe map to contain it,
since Iceland is a popular spawn in the classic version. Iceland is in
the same position as the classic map
The classic europe is frankly a lesser version of the new map as it
doesnt contain rivers , is smaller and the terrain has less quality, and
with the updated version, classic would just take up very needed space
in the lobby queue. We currently have a very large number of maps, which
results in players having to wait for a long time for an specific map in
public lobbies. This should help the issue a little at the very least.

## Description:
Adds a new `waterNukes` game config option that causes nuclear
detonations to convert land tiles into water instead of just leaving
fallout. When enabled, nuked land tiles are batched and converted to
water each tick, with full terrain metadata updates including:
- Ocean bit propagation from adjacent ocean tiles (BFS flood fill)
- Magnitude recomputation via BFS from remaining coastlines
- Shoreline bit fix-up in a 2-ring neighborhood around converted tiles
- Minimap terrain sync (majority-rule downsampling)
- Throttled water navigation graph rebuild (every 20 ticks) for ship
pathfinding
- Ship executions detect graph rebuilds and refresh their pathfinders
- TransportShips auto-retreat if their destination becomes water
- Water nuke craters use a smoothed angular noise ring with a
bounding-box scan instead of the regular per-tile random coin flip with
BFS, producing clean blob-shaped craters without scattered land pixels
that players would have to boat to individually
The `TerrainLayer` now incrementally repaints tiles that changed terrain
type, and tile update packets encode the terrain byte alongside tile
state so clients can reflect water conversions in real time.
When `waterNukes` is disabled, behavior is unchanged (fallout only).
Includes a new test suite (WaterNukes.test.ts) covering the conversion
pipeline, ocean propagation, magnitude recalculation, shoreline updates,
and minimap sync.
Also adds a new public game modifier for the special rotation.
### The only problem
A bit of lag on impact. But otherwise it works great and is fun. Maybe
needs some followup improvements if it gets merged.
I think its very cool in baikal / four islands team games. Chip away the
territory of your opponents.
Its also fun to turn The Box / Alps into a water map (its actually
possible to boat-trade then)

- An edit of The Box with more varied terrain.
- A modification to The World which optimizes play for mobile users.
- A custom remix to Antarctica which re-adds ice to the map.
All maps are edits of existing work. All maps have been added as their
own individual map files rather than edits to existing files for ease of
management.

## Description:
Adds 5 new public game modifiers to the Special game mode modifier pool:
- **Ports Disabled** - disables port construction, focus on factories
- **Nukes Disabled** - disables atom bombs, hydrogen bombs, MIRVs,
missile silos and SAM launchers
- **SAMs Disabled** - disables SAM launchers (thats funny, you cant
protect against nukes, have to space out your stuff) (mutually exclusive
with nukes disabled)
- **1M Starting Gold** - gives all players 1M starting gold (was
requested by people, new chill tier alongside existing 5M and 25M)
- **4min Peace Time** - grants 4 minutes of PVP spawn immunity
All `PublicGameModifiers` boolean fields are now optional - inactive
modifiers are omitted from game JSON instead of being serialized as
`false` (stop bloating the JSON size)
I think we have enough modifiers now :) Good variety

Normal (FFA and Team) public games no longer roll random modifiers.
Special games remain fully unaffected and continue to use random
modifiers as before.
I also increased the gold multiplier ticket count in the special
modifier pool from 1 to 4 because of player feedback.
Edit: And because I saw complaints of too much random spawn I decreased
the chance of it.

Increases the spawn immunity duration from 30s to 45s for maps with 5M
starting gold.
The previous 30s was too short - 45s gives players 15s longer than it
takes to build a SAM, allowing them to establish basic defenses before
becoming vulnerable.

For the next v30 fix version

HvN balancing for the revamped difficulty steps of v30 sadly doesn't
really work out...
In medium difficulty games humans nearly always win (boring)
In hard difficulty games humans usually lose
It was intended differently...
So lets get rid of medium difficulty HvN, always use hard difficulty and
disable the donation-capability for public game nations.
That will tune the human winrate towards a middle ground at about 65% I
think. Which should be nice.
Easier than in v29 (was frustrating sometimes) but not as easy as it's
now.
We can only test this in prod lol

**Homepage layout:** Reorder the game mode cards so FFA is the left
(large) box, Teams is the upper-right box, and Special Games is the
lower-right box. Mobile order updated to match (FFA → Teams → Special).
**Special game modifiers:**
- Adjusted modifier count roll to 40%/40%/15%/5% for 1/2/3/4 modifiers
(was 30%/40%/20%/10%) because having so many special games with 3/4
modifiers while we only have 8 modifiers in the pool is a bit dumb (from
the 8 modifiers two are mutually exclusive and 4 should be quite rare).
- Changed ticket counts in `SPECIAL_MODIFIER_POOL` so
isAlliancesDisabled and isHardNations are more rare.

Rex had this idea: "It would be funny to have an option in private
lobbies to disable alliances."
I added it as an option.
Now people can choose to live in constant fear of their neighbors 😆
Also added two new public game modifiers for variety (only for the
special rotation):
- Alliances disabled (low probability)
- x2 gold multiplier (low probability)
Would be nice to squeeze this into v30, last minute?

Adds Aegean map, a map centered in the Aegean Sea and the aegean islands
between Greece and Turkey. Map has approx. 1M land tiles, size of
1600x2000.
Nations are named after Ancient Greece era city-states and tribes.

This has been a heavily requested map in the community, having
suggestions in the Discord, Subreddit and even in some videos (for
example i saw Ultimus Rex suggest an aegean map when asked what maps he
would like in his last stream)
The map is designed so that the greek and turkish main landmasses are
around 400,000 pixels in area, which combined account for around less or
equal to 80% of the map. This means players will have to cross the sea
to win, and to do so they will have to hop across the islands, which
means there will be heavy warship action, instead of having stalemates
like in most island maps where the gap between islands is too large and
players would rather bomb each other.

## Description:
The recently improved `supportsCompactMapForTeams` only checked that
each team had ≥2 players but not that there were ≥2 teams. On very small
maps with compact + Duos (rare), this allowed lobbies with 1 team of 2,
which makes no sense (Wonder noticed that randomly while looking at the
homepage). Added a `numberOfTeams ≥ 2` check so the compact map modifier
isn't active when the player count can't sustain multiple teams.
The 125-player performance cap was also applied inside
`calculateMapPlayerCounts` before the compact 75% reduction, so a map
sized for 200 players would get capped to 125 then reduced to 31 instead
of the expected 50. Moved the cap (`MAX_PLAYER_COUNT`) to after the
compact reduction.

## Description:
I hope we can get this into v30?
The nation count is configurable now, just like the bot count.
Replaced the "Disable Nations" toggle with a nations slider (0–400) in
SinglePlayer and Host Lobby modals.
<img width="710" height="121" alt="Screenshot 2026-03-03 021952"
src="https://github.com/user-attachments/assets/c8d0f0c3-db51-4303-95fa-dbc770460ec2"
/>
Public games are staying exactly the same, this is just for singleplayer
and private lobby fun.
Youtubers could play HvN against 400 nations, for example.
Singleplayer enjoyers no longer have to play against 1 nation in HvN,
they can freely choose.
`GameConfig.disableNations: boolean` got replaced by `nations: number
(0-400, optional)`
`undefined` = map default,
`0` = disabled,
number = custom count
Nations slider defaults to the map's nation count, shows "(MAP DEFAULT)"
label when unchanged
Compact map toggle reduces nations to 25% when at default, restores when
toggled off (just like we already do with bots)
The nation count for HvN no longer automatically matches the human count
in singleplayer and private games, only in public games.
**What if there aren't enough nations configured for the map?**
We just use the HvN logic (Generate random nations)
### Warning
**This infra PR also needs to get merged:
https://github.com/openfrontio/infra/pull/263
Otherwise players can set 0 nations and get achievements.**

## Description:
Introduces Passage, an island filled thin map (like Amazon River but
inverted) which is a long, thin stretch of islands that makes for some
really fun gameplay. I playtested with 3 friends a number of times and
it's great in pretty much all the modes. Naval gameplay on this map is
particularly fun since some islands in the center basically hold the
choke points on trade ships passing from one side to another, making
them hotly contested territory.

### Changes
- **Map-specific team count overrides** with 75% probability:
- **Baikal**: 2 teams (plays into the natural two-sided geography)
- **Four Islands**: 4 teams (one team per island)
- Remaining 25% falls through to the normal weighted random team
selection
- **Doubled playlist frequency** for Baikal (5→10) and Four Islands
(4→8) in the team game playlist, making them appear twice as often
