# Dynamic flag atlas (runtime TEXTURE_2D_ARRAY)
Replaces the build-time `flag-atlas.png` with a runtime
`TEXTURE_2D_ARRAY`
populated on demand from each player's server-resolved flag URL. Layers
are
deduped by URL (every "Mercia" bot shares one slot), so the per-game
working
set is bounded by unique flags, not player count.
## Why
The store will eventually ship hundreds of custom flags fetched from the
CDN,
which can't be baked into a static atlas. Moving to a runtime array also
lets
the catalog grow without bloating the client bundle.
## Side effect (bonus)
Human players' country flags (`country:US`, etc.) now display next to
their
names in-game. The old atlas only contained nation names, so non-nation
flags
were silently dropped.
## Notes
- Cell size is fixed at 128×85; loaded images are aspect-fit and
centered.
- Layer cap is 512 (clamped to `MAX_ARRAY_TEXTURE_LAYERS`). Past the
cap,
further flag requests render no icon.
- Mipmaps are regenerated after each layer upload.
- Recommend store pipeline caps custom flag uploads at SVG or PNG ≤
256×170,
≤ 50 KB (decode-time RAM and bandwidth, not VRAM).

Resolves#3910
## Description:
- Split the events HUD into two components: a new
**`<actionable-events>`** that owns alliance prompts (request / renew)
and a slimmed-down **`<events-display>`** for everything else.
- Reworked `<events-display>` into two visual tiers: dim/scrolling tier
2 on top (trade results, unit losses, donations, alliance status),
prominent tier 1 anchored at the bottom (inbound nukes, naval invasion,
attack requests, alliance broken, conquered player, chat). Tier 2 caps
at the 4 newest entries; events expire after 8s.
- Added a transient **+gold pip** above the gold pill in
`<control-panel>`, animated with a small fade-in. Fires for trade ships,
trains, donations, and conquest. Trade-ship and train arrivals are
removed from the events scroll since they're surfaced here instead.
- New `MessageType.NUKE_DETONATED` and a server-side emission in
`NukeExecution.detonate` — once an inbound nuke lands or gets
intercepted, the inbound warning vanishes and a "detonated" entry takes
its place.
- `displayMessage` gained optional `unitID` and `focusPlayerID` params
so events can link to a unit or a player. Unit captures and destructions
now navigate to the unit's last tile when clicked; donations navigate to
the other player.
- ActionableEvents card width matches `<events-display>`; cards persist
until the user clicks Accept/Reject/Renew/Ignore or the server-side
request timeout expires.
- Removed the in-events category filter UI and the gold-amount banner —
`<events-display>` is now a lightweight log that hides entirely when
empty.

relates to #893
Replaces the canvas2D + Pixi.js map renderer with a pure WebGL2 pipeline.
Map-space visuals (terrain, names, structures, units, FX, selection
boxes, build ghosts, status icons, nuke trajectories, defense zones,
spawn glow, water-nuke terrain deltas) all render through dedicated
passes in src/client/render/gl/passes/. Controllers in
src/client/controllers/ push state directly to the WebGL view; no
relay events. Assets unified under resources/ + assetUrl(). Mode
toggle wired to the existing darkMode UserSetting (no more day/night
cycle). One input system (InputHandler + EventBus + TransformHandler).
Known regressions to address in follow-up work:
- [ ] webgl: highlight structures when hover on build menu
- [ ] webgl: custom flags, flag atlas
- [ ] webgl: territory patterns
- [ ] webgl: defense post outline
- [ ] webgl: territory expanse smoothing
src/client/render/gl/assets/ held 11 atlas files (PNGs + JSON metadata)
that bypassed the asset-manifest pipeline — they were imported via
Vite's ?url query, bundled, and served same-origin instead of going
through the CDN like every other game asset. Moved them to
resources/atlases/, switched the PNG imports to assetUrl("atlases/...")
so they flow through the manifest, and updated the JSON metadata
imports to "resources/atlases/..." paths. Also dropped an orphan copy
of MissileSiloIconWhite.svg (no callers; resources/images/ already had
the canonical version).
render-settings.json stays in src/ — it's renderer tuning config
consumed at bundle time, not a URL-served asset.
## Description:
The code was checking `clanTag.length > MAX_CLAN_TAG_LENGTH` but
returning `"tag_too_short"`. This fix corrects the error message to
something more appropriate or ensures the logic matches the message.
**Fix:** Corrected the error message key from `"tag_too_short"` to
`"tag_too_long"` when the length exceeds the maximum.

## Summary
- Tier upgrade/downgrade in the Store. The Subscriptions tab now shows
all tiers including the user's current one. Other tiers swap "Subscribe"
→ "Switch" when the user already has a sub, and clicking them calls the
new `POST /subscriptions/@me/change-tier` endpoint with a
direction-aware confirm (upgrade charges prorated diff now, downgrade
gives account credit).
- Owned-tier card renders a **Current Plan** badge in place of the
purchase button. Resolution logic in `resolveCosmetics` now reads
`userMeResponse.player.subscription.tier` (with flare fallback) and
marks that tier as `owned`.
- AccountModal's `<subscription-panel>` reworked into a proper
two-column layout:
- **Left**: tier name, `$X.XX/mo` price, description, daily Pu/Caps
amounts.
- **Right**: status badge (Active / Renews date / Cancels date),
`[Manage] [Change Tier]` button row, `[Cancel]` centered underneath.
When `cancelAtPeriodEnd === true`, the row collapses to a single
`[Reactivate]` button (opens the Stripe portal).
- New `<o-button size="xs">` variant (`py-2 px-3 text-xs`) for the
compact panel buttons.
- Store dollar-purchase price label now supports an optional suffix
(`/mo` for subs only) via a `priceSuffix` prop plumbed through
`CosmeticContainer` → `PurchaseButton`.
- `Api.ts` gains `changeSubscriptionTier(tierName)` with the same
401-handling pattern as the existing subscription helpers.

## Summary
- Add a **Subscriptions** tab to the Store. Each tier renders as a
`<cosmetic-button>` with description, daily Pu/Caps amounts, and a
Stripe checkout button driven by the existing `createCheckoutSession`
flow.
- Show the player's active subscription in the **Account modal** via a
new `<subscription-panel>` Lit component (status badge, period-end /
cancel-at-period-end, daily currency breakdown).
- **Manage** button opens the Stripe billing portal in a new tab (`POST
/subscriptions/@me/portal`).
- **Cancel** button (hidden once `cancelAtPeriodEnd === true`) calls
`POST /subscriptions/@me/cancel` after a `confirm()` prompt, then
invalidates the userMe cache and refetches.
- Block re-purchase: clicking Subscribe when the user already has a
`subscription:*` flare alerts "Already subscribed" before opening
checkout (upgrade/downgrade flows are out of scope for now).
- Schema additions:
- `CosmeticsSchema.subscriptions: Record<string, SubscriptionSchema>`
(optional) in `src/core/CosmeticSchemas.ts`.
- `UserMeResponse.player.subscription: { tier, status, currentPeriodEnd,
cancelAtPeriodEnd } | null` in `src/core/ApiSchemas.ts`.
- Translations: new `store.*` and `account_modal.sub_*` keys in
`resources/lang/en.json` (English only — Crowdin handles the rest).

Also changes:
- Better Terrain (old version had no brown terrain and smidges of white
terrain, which made almost all the map practically green terrain). The
coastlines and terrain area remain the exact same ( the small land
change in manifest was because the old map had little random pixel lakes
all around)
- More Nations (NPCs) , more consistent names for them, and an extra

## Description:
This PR implements a keybind for retaliation against incoming non-bot
attacks (Players and Nations). It currently will target the most recent
(last in array) incoming attack when the keybind is pressed, choosing
the minimum of attack ratio or incoming attack troop size to retaliate
with. This correlates with the last displayed incoming attack on the
bottom modal. It works when there are multiple attacks (press multiple
times to retaliate against each consecutive attack). If the retaliation
size is smaller than the attack, the keybind can be pressed multiple
times to repeatedly blunt the incoming troop count.
Due to the current keybind logic KeyR cannot be used but Shift+KeyR can

No tests have been added as the retaliation feature doesn't seem to have
any to begin with since it is just an attack intent. The keybind is not
configured any differently than others. I did run all current tests and
was all good.

## Description:
Corrected inbalance in Luna map between top and bottom. Now both sides
have about equal land tiles.
Testing and editing was done to help boat-pathing at least look normal
along bottom half.
Additional notch cut in orbit lines to take edge off boat-pathing. Now
obstacle is almost a straight line.
Filled in center orbits to help players push easier. It was reported to
be tedious previously.
'Top Secret Military Base' nation was renamed with only vowels blacked
out for easier reading of joke name.
'Monolith' nation was renamed with a special character that displays
like the actual Monolith.

## Description:
Starting v32 maps right now!
Adds map of the Middle East. Probably one of the most highly requested
maps.
Very large map (3.4M land pixels, similar to Two Lakes, would become the
2nd or 3rd largest map by land area) of the arabian peninsula and
surrounding regions.
This map has both huge areas of land without water access full of desert
terrain, and massive trade chokepoints, which combined will result in
crazy endgames.
The theme of this map are historical, based on the end of WW1.
Historical flags have been added for the nation NPCs to use.
(High map rotation of 8 since this is probably going to become one of
the most popular maps given the relevancy of the region in real life.)
Terrain source from NASA DEM, already credited.

QoL changes for the Bosphorus map.
The base image for the map had a little aliasing which resulted in some
rivers being cut off.
<img width="673" height="386" alt="image"
src="https://github.com/user-attachments/assets/b8ed181f-fbeb-4d6f-b7ab-a8b0ea300a22"

All of the nations except istanbul also had absolutely nothing to do
with the region. For example, Varna is a city in Northeast bulgaria and
the aegean isles are also nowhere near. There was also a nation that did
not spawn because its coordinates were in the sea.
<img width="626" height="413" alt="image"
src="https://github.com/user-attachments/assets/a6537f79-3785-4316-8fd4-a99f55faff71"
/>
All of these poor designs are probably the result of the map being
resized, originally being a larger map. It probably explains why this is
the smallest map by land area (not counting Oceania)
Fixes:
- Fixed landlocked rivers and added More accurate bodies of water
- Complete remake of the nations. Nations are now far more accurately
placed districts of the region, and more evenly placed

The data and gamestyle of this map should not change much, as the
landmasses remain in practice the same

CSS mask-image triggers a CORS fetch, which failed for the CDN-hosted medal SVG. Switched to a Vite ?raw import so the SVG is embedded as a data URI at build time — no network request, no CORS.
Also stripped the SVG of Inkscape metadata and replaced filter-based color inversion with a plain fill="white", shrinking it from 3,278 → 955 bytes (387 bytes gzipped).
## Description:
Comprehensive accuracy and quality-of-life improvements across 8 maps.
No gameplay mechanics changed: only nation names, spawn positions, and
flag codes. All changes bring maps closer to real-world geographic and
historical accuracy.
**Changes by map:**
1. **North America:** Corrected numerous incorrect state spawn
positions. Added all 13 Canadian provinces and territories with correct
flags, as well as a few additional bots for balancing and completeness.
2. **South America:** Corrected spawn positions of Venezuela, Suriname,
and French Guiana. Added four Brazilian states (Amazonas, Pará, Bahia,
São Paulo) for better regional coverage and balancing.
3. **Gateway to the Atlantic:** Full historical consistency pass
targeting the ~1340-1410 CE period, matching the existing Britannia and
Italia map style. Renamed several nations for historical accuracy (Duchy
of Burgundy, Kingdom of Navarre, Kingdom of Majorca, City of Avignon,
Crown of Aragon, Duchy of Aquitaine, Hafsid Sultanate, Marinid
Sultanate, Zayyanid Sultanate, Holy Roman Empire). Added 7 new
historically accurate flag SVGs for these nations.
4. **Europe:** Shortened long-form nation names to short-form for
consistency with other maps. Added Andorra and Monaco for improved
balance.
5. **Europe Classic:** Fixed "Syrian Arab Republic" to "Syria" for
consistency with all other maps. Added Baltic states, Croatia, Denmark,
Sápmi for balancing.
6. **Oceania:** Removed ghost bots that no longer appear on the map.
Fixed truncated and outdated names: Lao PDR to Laos, Brunei Darussalam
to Brunei, TimorLeste to Timor Leste, Taiwan Province of China to
Taiwan.
7. **World:** Fixed outdated names for accuracy and consistency with the
World map and other maps. Added bots in regions lacking coverage for
more consistent global representation.
8. **Giant World Map:** Updated nation names for accuracy and
consistency. Added Canadian provinces, US states, Bolivia, and Gabon for
improved map balance.
All changes made and verified in the map editor. No en.json or UI
changes required as these are map data files only.

## Description:
Continuation from #3276
Adds the complete client-side clan UI as a Lit web component
(`<clan-modal>`), a typed API client with Zod-validated responses,
shared response schemas, and a reusable `<confirm-dialog>` component.
### New: `ClanModal.ts`
| View | What it does |
|------|-------------|
| **My Clans** | Lists joined clans + pending join requests (built from
`/users/@me`, no extra fetches) |
| **Browse** | Search by tag (min 3 chars), paginated results,
configurable per-page (10/25/50) |
| **Clan Detail** | Stats, paginated + searchable member list, role
badges, join/leave/request actions |
| **Manage** | Edit name (max 35 chars) + description, toggle
open/invite-only, disband |
| **Transfer** | Leadership transfer with member selector + confirmation
|
| **Requests** | Approve/deny join requests (leader/officer) |
| **Bans** | View and unban (leader/officer) |
| **My Requests** | View and withdraw outgoing requests |
### New: `ConfirmDialog.ts`
Reusable `<confirm-dialog>` Lit component — replaces native
`confirm()`/`prompt()` which are blocked or broken on mobile and
CrazyGames iframes. Supports danger/warning variants and an optional
textarea (used for ban reasons). Fires `confirm`/`cancel` events.
### New: `ClanApi.ts`
Typed API client covering all clan endpoints. Every response is
Zod-validated. Auth header is always last in the spread (can't be
overridden by callers). Unknown server error messages always fall back
to a generic client-side string — never displayed verbatim.
### New: `ClanApiSchemas.ts` (in `src/core/`)
Shared Zod schemas for clan API responses with max-length constraints on
`name` (35) and `description` (200). Lives in `core/` so it can be
consumed by both client code and the leaderboard table.
### Modified: `ApiSchemas.ts`
- Added `clans` and `clanRequests` arrays to `UserMeResponseSchema`
- Moved clan leaderboard schemas out to `ClanApiSchemas.ts`
- Renamed `LeaderboardClanTagSchema` → `RequiredClanTagSchema`
### Modified: `Api.ts`
- Added `invalidateUserMe()` to bust the cached `/users/me` response
after mutations
- Removed `fetchClanLeaderboard` (moved to `ClanApi.ts`)
### Tests
- `ClanModal.test.ts` — rendering, view navigation, user actions
- `ClanApiQueries.test.ts` — fetch functions, error handling, pagination
- `ClanApiMutations.test.ts` — join, leave, kick, ban, promote,
transfer, etc.
- `ClanApiBans.test.ts` — ban/unban calls and error paths
- `ClanApiSchemas.test.ts` — Zod schema validation edge cases
- `LeaderboardModal.test.ts` — updated imports
## Notable design decisions
- **Not-logged-in state** — shows "Sign in to join clans" instead of
false "no clans" empty state
- **Rate limit feedback** — reads `Retry-After` header and surfaces wait
time to the user

Change inspired by Territorial.io . Renames the Mediterranean sea map to

Cross-origin CSS-mask icons were failing on Chrome and Safari because

## Description:
Small-island removal previously ran only on the full-size terrain. The
compact (4x downscaled) map inherited that filtering before being
downscaled, which meant islands that survived at full size could end up
as tiny specks in the compact map.
This PR runs `removeSmallIslands` on the 4x terrain as well, with half
the threshold (15 vs 30 tiles), so very small islands are pruned in
compact maps while the full-size map is unchanged.

Adds Archipelago Sea map. The island map to end all island maps.
This is a real location in Southwest Finland, famous for being the
archipelago with the most islands in the world.
This map is made for the very loud playerbase who enjoys naval maps.
This is probably the most heavy naval map we are gonna get. Given this
is a very experimental and unorthodox map like amazon or 4islands, it
has a rotation of 3 , low but still should pop in for people who prefer
island maps.

Resolves#3685
## Description:
Adds fullscreen support for both desktop and mobile:
**Desktop / Android** — a fullscreen toggle button in the in-game HUD
(right sidebar), next to the settings button. Icon switches between
expand/compress depending on current state, synced with
`fullscreenchange` event (works with F11 too). Hidden on browsers that
don't support `document.fullscreenEnabled`.
**iOS** — since Safari doesn't support the Fullscreen API, a dismissible
banner is shown on the main screen (above the lobby cards) explaining
how to add the game to the Home Screen for a fullscreen experience. The
banner includes:
- **How** button — opens a step-by-step guide modal with iOS version
detection (iOS 26+ shows updated steps for the new ··· menu location,
including the extra Share step inside the menu)
- **Later** — hides until next visit
- **Never** — permanently dismisses via localStorage
- **Click here** button styled as a speech bubble with a tail pointing
toward the Share button location (center for iOS ≤18, right for iOS 26+)
All user-facing strings are wired through `translateText()` with keys
added to `en.json`.

(re-submission of older PR because the old one had too many merge
conflicts)
Re-adds and reworks the previously April Fools "Reglaciated Antarctica"
as a new map, this time with proper elevation data: Map of Antarctica
centered in the South Pole.
The "appeal" of this a map is that it has no green terrain. (As such it
has a really low rotation number (of 1). )
This also completes the Continental map category (antarctica was the
only continent out of the traditional 7 missing).
