Feature/reuse private lobby (#4536)
**Add approved & assigned issue number here:** Resolves #4476 ## Description: Lets a private-lobby host reuse the same group for **back-to-back games without re-sharing the invite link**. **Flow:** in a private game, the host clicks a **"New lobby"** button in the top-right bar (next to pause). The game's **server** creates a fresh private lobby (same creator, default settings) and broadcasts its id to everyone still connected. Non-hosts get a one-click **"Join"** banner at the top of the screen; the host is taken straight back to the host view for the new lobby. The chain can repeat indefinitely. ### Key design decision: the server creates and broadcasts the successor lobby The successor lobby is minted by the **finished game's server**, not the host's browser. The old game's server is the only thing still connected to every player, so it has to be what announces the new lobby; because it also *creates* that lobby, the id everyone is redirected to is **authoritative**. A real lobby the server just made for the authenticated creator, not an id a client handed it to trust and fan out. The request is **creator-only** and **idempotent** per game, and every successor is wired the same way, so the group can keep playing game after game. ### How it works 1. Host clicks "New lobby" (host + private only) → confirm dialog → the client sends a `create_next_lobby` message. 2. The game server verifies the sender is the lobby creator, mints a successor private lobby on the same worker, stores it (idempotent), and broadcasts a `new_lobby` message with the new id to all connected clients. 3. Each client reacts: the host is navigated to the new lobby's host view (`/…/game/<id>?host`); everyone else sees a dismissible "Host started a new lobby — Join" banner that navigates to the join URL in one click. Two new Zod wire messages in `src/core/Schemas.ts` (`create_next_lobby`, `new_lobby`) carry the request and the broadcast. ### Screenshots <table> <tr> <td width="50%" align="center" valign="top"> <img width="220" alt="In-game New lobby button" src="https://github.com/user-attachments/assets/9a4d4425-a7f6-4b3a-9c4f-9205300b1e5b" /><br /> <b>1.</b> In-game <b>New lobby</b> button (top-right, next to pause) — shown only to the host of a private lobby </td> <td width="50%" align="center" valign="top"> <img width="320" alt="Confirmation dialog" src="https://github.com/user-attachments/assets/fa023f5a-58e8-439b-8899-5150235a1e8c" /><br /> <b>2.</b> Confirmation so a stray click doesn't pull everyone into a new lobby </td> </tr> <tr> <td colspan="2" align="center"> <img width="100%" alt="Join banner for non-hosts" src="https://github.com/user-attachments/assets/7e5ef490-aa7e-4449-add9-e857fe273bde" /><br /> <b>3.</b> Everyone else gets a one-click <b>Join</b> banner at the top of the screen </td> </tr> <tr> <td colspan="2" align="center"> <img width="330" alt="Host view for the new lobby" src="https://github.com/user-attachments/assets/9920b070-4ed3-41f8-9345-78778b4648a7" /><br /> <b>4.</b> The host lands back in the host view for the brand-new lobby </td> </tr> </table> ### Design Decisions **A. The server creates & broadcasts the successor, not the client.** The finished game's server mints the successor and broadcasts its id. Why this and not "host's browser calls `POST /api/create_game`, then asks the server to relay the id"? - The broadcast id is **authoritative/verified**: it's a real lobby the server just created for the **authenticated** lobby creator (creator identity comes from the JWT the game already holds), not an arbitrary id a client hands the server to fan out to everyone. - The **old game server is the only thing still connected to all the players**, so it must be the one to broadcast. Having it also create the lobby keeps it to one authoritative round-trip instead of "client creates, then client asks server to trust an id it didn't make." - The server can **authorise** (only the creator) and stay **idempotent**. **B. The successor starts with default settings (not a copy of the old game).** A deliberate scope choice. The host lands in the normal host view and reconfigures. Copying the exact config would mean reverse-mapping every `GameConfig` field back into the host-modal controls, which I thought would be out of scope for this PR. Same **creator** is preserved; same **settings** intentionally is not. **C. It's a brand-new lobby, not the same game resurrected.** This directly follows @evanpelle's guidance on the issue: *"A 'lobby' is really just a game that hasn't started yet. So making a persistent lobby isn't really possible. I think instead having a simple way to transfer players to a new lobby is probably the way to go."* A `GameServer` runs exactly one game (start → end → archive), so rather than reworking that lifecycle to resurrect the old game, the server spins up a fresh successor lobby and transfers the group into it, which is also why the feature is framed as "reuse the group," not "reuse the game object." **D. The host returns via a `?host` URL flag + full reload ("attach mode").** Navigating to a normal join URL (`/game/<id>`) always lands you in the **join** view, which has no Start button. So the host can't just use the join URL. The `?host` flag routes the creator to the **host view** instead (`Main.handleUrl` → `HostLobbyModal` in "attach" mode, which binds to the existing lobby id and skips creating a new one). A full reload is used because it cleanly tears down the finished game and mirrors the existing win-screen "Requeue" button's `window.location.href` pattern. **E. Each successor can spawn its own successor (recursive factory).** The first version only chained **one** generation. A spawned lobby had no factory of its own, so the *second* "New lobby" click did nothing (button just greyed out). Fixed by `wireSuccessorLobby` (a small dependency-injected helper) that wires every successor the same way. This is the whole point of the issue ("back-to-back games"), so it has its own regression test. **F. Private-only.** The successor factory is installed **only** on the private `POST /api/create_game` path in `Worker.ts`. Public games (scheduled by the master) and singleplayer never get a factory, so `handleCreateNextLobby` is a no-op for them. The client button is also gated on `isLobbyCreator && isPrivateLobby`. **G. In-game button + confirm; the win-modal button was removed.** An earlier version put the "New lobby" button on the win screen. I moved it to the in-game bar so the host can reuse the lobby **at any time** (without dying or waiting for the game to end), and added a **confirm** (matching the adjacent Exit button) so a stray click next to pause/exit doesn't yank everyone into a new lobby. The win-screen button became redundant and was removed. ### Testing - **Unit tests:** wire-message schema round-trips (`tests/NewLobbyMessages.test.ts`); the server handler — authorisation, broadcast, idempotency — against a real `GameServer` (`tests/server/CreateNextLobby.test.ts`); and successor **chaining** across multiple generations (`tests/server/SuccessorLobby.test.ts`). - **Full suite:** `npm test` passes — **1782 tests across 154 files**. - **Manual:** created a private lobby with multiple clients and played consecutive games via the button; verified non-hosts get the Join banner, the host lands back in the host view, and the chain works for 3+ games in a row. ## Please complete the following: - [X] I have added screenshots for all UI updates - [X] I process any text displayed to the user through translateText() and I've added it to the en.json file - [X] I have added relevant tests to the test directory ## Please put your Discord username so you can be contacted if a bug or regression is found: MushroomLamp --------- Co-authored-by: Claude Opus 4.8 <noreply@anthropic.com> |

feat(rewards): claimable subscription rewards UI (#4566)
## Summary Subscription perks (signup bonus + daily soft/hard currency) now land as **unclaimed rewards** the player must explicitly claim, instead of crediting balances directly (API side: openfrontio/infra#409). This PR adds the client UI: - **`RewardsPanel`** — shared Lit element listing pending rewards (currency icon, `+amount`, server `note` with translated fallbacks for known reasons), with per-reward **Claim** and **Claim All**. Both claim endpoints return post-claim balances, so the wallet updates without re-fetching `/users/@me`. - **Account modal** — renders the panel above the subscription panel (rewards survive subscription lapse, so it doesn't depend on an active sub). - **`RewardsModal`** — popup at login when rewards are pending. Reuses `RewardsPanel`, auto-closes when the last reward is claimed. Only opens on a clean homepage load (`pathname === "/"`, empty hash) so it never pops over join links, `#modal=...` deep links, or the Stripe `#purchase-completed` return — that flow reloads clean, so the signup bonus popup appears right after purchase. - **Schemas/API** — `RewardSchema` + `rewards[]` on `/users/@me` (optional for older API versions), `claimReward` / `claimAllRewards` in `Api.ts`. Reward `id`/`amount` stay opaque bigint strings; a 404 on single claim means "already claimed elsewhere" (double-click / second device) and re-syncs instead of erroring. ## Screenshots Login popup (also embedded in the account modal): - Panel: currency icon + amount + note per row, Claim / Claim All buttons - Amounts formatted via `BigInt` (can exceed `Number.MAX_SAFE_INTEGER`) ## Test plan - [x] `npm test` — 161 tests pass, including new coverage for `RewardSchema`, `/users/@me` with/without `rewards`, and both claim response shapes - [x] `tsc --noEmit`, ESLint, Prettier clean - [x] Verified in the running app (Playwright): panel renders in the account-modal style; single claim against a stubbed endpoint credits balances and removes the row; Claim All empties the list and auto-closes the popup; body scroll restored 🤖 Generated with [Claude Code](https://claude.com/claude-code) Co-authored-by: Claude Fable 5 <noreply@anthropic.com> |

feat: marketing email consent UI (post-login prompt + account settings) (#4554)
Resolves #4029 ## Description: Client-side marketing-email consent capture — the client half of #4029. It consumes the already-merged API (`GET /users/@me` marketing-consent state + `POST /marketing/consent`); **no backend changes**. **Three surfaces:** - **Post-login prompt** — a small, non-blocking toast docked top-right, shown once after login when the player's consent is undecided (`no_response`) and a verified email is on file. Yes / No thanks / dismiss all record a decision, and it never re-nags. - **Account → "Account Settings" tab** — a persistent on/off toggle to change or withdraw consent at any time (the GDPR change/withdraw path). - **No-email state** — when the account has no verified email, the tab offers to bind one (magic link to a plain email — the backend's `new-association` path — or link Google) so the player can subscribe. Styling matches the game's existing panels (`bg-surface`, `border-white/10`, `shadow-[var(--shadow-malibu-blue)]`, malibu-blue accent), reusing `o-button` and the account modal's existing email field/handlers. **Changes:** - New `<marketing-consent-toast>` (`src/client/MarketingConsentToast.ts`), mounted in `index.html`, registered in `Main.ts`. - `AccountModal.ts`: new "Account Settings" tab (toggle + bind-email state), optimistic with revert-on-failure. - `Api.ts`: `setMarketingConsent()` → `POST /marketing/consent`, invalidates cached `/users/@me`. - `ApiSchemas.ts`: optional `player.marketingConsent { consented, hasEmail }` on `UserMeResponse`. - `en.json`: `marketing_consent.*` + `account_modal.marketing_*` / `tab_settings`. ## Please complete the following: - [x] I have added screenshots for all UI updates <!-- attaching in a follow-up comment --> - [x] I process any text displayed to the user through translateText() and I've added it to the en.json file - [x] I have added relevant tests to the test directory ## Please put your Discord username so you can be contacted if a bug or regression is found: Iamlewis --------- Co-authored-by: Claude Opus 4.8 <noreply@anthropic.com> |

feat(crazygames): backend login + surface the signed-in user (#4542)
Client-side CrazyGames login: exchange the SDK user token for our session, then surface that identity in the UI. Implements the client side of the [CrazyGames login handoff guide](https://docs.crazygames.com/sdk/user/). ## Part 1 — Backend login (token exchange) On CrazyGames we exchange the SDK's user token for our own session via `POST /auth/crazygames`, instead of the cookie-based `/auth/refresh` (the refresh cookie is `SameSite=Lax` and unusable from the CrazyGames iframe). - **`CrazyGamesSDK.ts`** — `getUserToken()` wrapper (awaits `ready()`, gates on `isUserAccountAvailable`, returns `null` on throw / no signed-in user). - **`Auth.ts`** — `doRefreshJwt()` routes to `doCrazyGamesLogin()` when on CrazyGames with a signed-in account; a `null` token (guest / no account) falls through to the existing `/auth/refresh` flow. `reauthAfterCrazyGamesChange()` drops the cached session on a mid-session sign-in. - **`Main.ts`** — `addAuthListener` re-runs auth + `getUserMe()` when the player signs into CrazyGames mid-session. Everything funnels through the existing `userAuth()` → `refreshJwt()` path, so **startup login and the 15-min re-exchange on expiry come for free** — no new expiry/polling code. ## Part 2 — Surface the signed-in user - **Account button** shows the CrazyGames avatar + username when signed in (clicking opens the account modal), or a **"Sign in"** that opens CrazyGames' own `showAuthPrompt()` when a guest. Wired across every entry point: the desktop nav pill, the mobile hamburger item (un-hidden on CrazyGames by dropping `.no-crazygames`), and — since CrazyGames renders below the `lg` breakpoint where the desktop nav is hidden — a new button in the **homepage top bar's** right slot. - **AccountModal** treats the CrazyGames user as logged-in: "Connected as" avatar + username, currency/subscription, and stats/games/friends. **No Discord/Google/email login+link buttons and no logout** (CrazyGames owns the account). A guest who reaches the modal gets a CrazyGames sign-in button, never Discord/Google. - **`CrazyGamesSDK.ts`** — `getUserProfile()` + `showAuthPrompt()` wrappers; `profilePictureUrl` added to the user type. Identity comes from the SDK (`getUser()`), not `/users/@me`, which doesn't surface CrazyGames identity yet. ## Behavior - **Signed-in CrazyGames account** → real backend session; avatar + username in the top bar; CrazyGames-only account modal. - **CrazyGames guest / not signed in** → silent fallback to guest; "Sign in" button opens `showAuthPrompt()`; auto-logged-in the moment they sign in (via `addAuthListener`). - **Not on CrazyGames** → completely unchanged. ## Testing - `npx tsc --noEmit` — clean - `npx eslint` on changed files — clean - No new i18n keys (reuses `main.sign_in`, `account_modal.*`). - No unit tests: this repo tests core sim only, and CrazyGames only initializes inside a crazygames.com iframe, so the CG paths can't run locally (the localhost SDK mock returns unsigned tokens the backend rejects). **Needs a manual pass on the CrazyGames game page (gameId `64178`)** covering: signed-in avatar/username + account modal, guest "Sign in" → prompt, and mid-session sign-in. ## Assumptions to confirm (backend) 1. The `/auth/crazygames` JWT carries the same `iss` (`getApiBase()`) and `aud` (`getAudience()`) as normal openfront.io tokens and satisfies `TokenPayloadSchema` (incl. base64url `sub`) — otherwise `userAuth()` will `logOut()`. 2. CrazyGames iframes our own origin (so `getApiBase()` → `https://api.openfront.io`), consistent with the existing integration. 🤖 Generated with [Claude Code](https://claude.com/claude-code) --------- Co-authored-by: Claude Opus 4.8 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com> |

fix(crazygames): guest username on logout, hide fullscreen, in-game pop-ups (#4538)
Addresses four requests from the CrazyGames platform team. Supersedes #4520 (closed when its branch was renamed to `crazygames`). ## 1. Username reverts to guest on CrazyGames logout When a player logged into their CrazyGames account and then logged out, the username stayed the CrazyGames name. It now reverts to a fresh guest (`AnonXXX`) name. A `crazyGamesLoggedIn` flag guards this so it only fires on a real login→logout transition (not on the initial "not logged in" state, which would otherwise wipe a stored name). ## 2. Fullscreen button hidden on CrazyGames CrazyGames provides its own fullscreen control in the game frame, so our in-game fullscreen button is now hidden when running on CrazyGames (and unchanged everywhere else). ## 3. Native browser prompts → in-game pop-ups The `showInGameConfirm()` / `showInGameAlert()` helpers (promise-based, callable from non-Lit contexts like WebSocket/popstate handlers) drive the existing shared `<confirm-dialog>` component, so styling stays consistent with the rest of the app. Every native `confirm()`/`alert()` shown **during gameplay** now uses it: - Exit-game confirmation (right sidebar + browser-back path) - Kick-player confirmation - Host-left notice (dispatches leave-lobby only after dismiss, preserving the old blocking UX) - Connection-refused notice (also removes a stale `// TODO: make this a modal`) ## 4. `gameplayStop` when Settings menu / pop-up is open - The pop-up helpers report `gameplayStop()` while shown and `gameplayStart()` on dismiss. - Settings + Graphics Settings modals now report `gameplayStop` whenever the menu is open — previously it only fired when the modal *also* paused the sim (singleplayer / lobby-creator), so regular multiplayer players never triggered it. Also fixes graphics-settings so gameplay resumes correctly on close for those players. ## Scope Per request, this covers **in-game dialogs only**. The main-menu native alerts (store/checkout, account, subscriptions, friends, login) were intentionally left as-is. ## Testing - `tsc --noEmit`, `eslint`, and `prettier --check` all pass. - Verified the confirm and alert pop-ups render correctly in the running app (shared `<confirm-dialog>`, danger/warning variants), resolve their promises, and tear down their portal. - CrazyGames-iframe-only behaviors (username revert, `gameplayStop`, fullscreen hiding) are verified by code inspection — they require running inside the actual CrazyGames frame. 🤖 Generated with [Claude Code](https://claude.com/claude-code) --------- Co-authored-by: Claude Opus 4.8 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com> |

feat(client): custom plutonium amount purchase in store (#4515)
## Summary Adds a **custom plutonium amount** purchase option to the Store, wiring the client to the new `POST /stripe/create-custom-currency-checkout` endpoint (infra [PR #400](https://github.com/openfrontio/infra/pull/400)). Players can buy any integer **20–2000** plutonium, priced inline server-side at **20 plutonium = \$1.00**. A new `<custom-currency-card>` renders as the **last tile in the Store "Packs" tab** — a slider + number input with a live price and a "Buy for \$X.XX" button that redirects to Stripe Checkout. ## Changes | File | Change | |---|---| | `src/client/Api.ts` | New `createCustomCurrencyCheckout(hardAmount)` — POSTs `{ hardAmount, hostname }`, returns the Stripe `url` (mirrors `createCheckoutSession`). | | `src/client/components/CustomCurrencyCard.ts` | New `<custom-currency-card>` component: plutonium slider + number input, live price, clamps to 20–2000 integer client-side, redirects to Stripe on buy. | | `src/client/Store.ts` | Renders the card after the fixed packs in the "Packs" tab; drops the now-unreachable "no packs" empty state. | | `src/client/Main.ts` | Handles `type=custom_currency` in the `#purchase-completed` redirect (success alert + strip hash; balance refetches from `/users/@me` on load). | | `src/client/LangSelector.ts` | Registers `custom-currency-card` for translation-reload re-render. | | `resources/lang/en.json` | Adds `store.buy_for`, `store.custom_amount`, `store.custom_currency_purchase_success`; removes the orphaned `store.no_packs`. | ## Notes - **No catalog product** — unlike currency packs, the custom amount is priced inline server-side, so the card is standalone (not a `resolveCosmetics` item). - **Async credit** — no optimistic balance bump; the balance reflects the Stripe webhook via `/users/@me` on return, matching the currency-pack flow. - Server is authoritative on bounds/rate; client-side clamping is UX-only. ## Testing - Full suite green: **1842 tests / 153 files**; `tsc --noEmit` and eslint clean. - Manually verified in the running app (headless Chromium): card renders in the Packs tab; amount/price stay in sync across slider + number field; clamping confirmed (5000→2000/\$100.00, 5→20/\$1.00, 750→\$37.50 — matches the pricing table). 🤖 Generated with [Claude Code](https://claude.com/claude-code) Co-authored-by: Claude Opus 4.8 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com> |

fix: survive host modal close during listed-lobby auto-start (#4514)
Follow-up to the listed-lobby auto-start feature (`2a82b01e3`, on main). ## Bug When a listed lobby auto-started (and in some paths on manual start), the game began server-side but a player got ejected back to the menu before it loaded. Root cause: `BaseModal.close()` navigates via `showPage()`, which **force-closes whichever page-modal is currently visible**. During the game-start transition that is the *other* lobby modal — closing the join modal first cascade-closed the host's modal with `leaveLobbyOnClose` still armed (host disconnected → host-left teardown killed the game); reversing the order just moved the victim to the joiner. No close order fixes both sides. ## Fix - **Disarm both lobby modals before closing either** in the prestart transition (`disarmLeaveOnClose()` on `HostLobbyModal` and `JoinLobbyModal`), so no cascade order can disconnect anyone mid game-start. - Both modals re-arm `leaveLobbyOnClose` in `onOpen` instead of `onClose`'s state reset, so once disarmed no later cascade close can re-arm it until the modal is reopened. - `HostLobbyModal.closeWithoutLeaving()` (pattern `JoinLobbyModal` already used), called explicitly instead of the generic modal-close loop. - **Server hardening:** `handleClientDisconnect` bails on `hasStarted()` (which includes prestart) instead of raw `_hasStarted`, so host socket churn during the lobby → game transition can never tear down a starting game regardless of client behavior. Regression test included. ## Verification Headless end-to-end (two browser contexts, host + joiner, `leave-lobby` stack-trace tripwire armed on both pages): - **Manual start:** host and joiner both receive prestart/start and enter the game; zero `leave-lobby` dispatches. - **Auto-start:** same, with nobody interacting after listing. Also confirmed manually in a real browser. The auto-start deadline was temporarily 30s during testing and is restored to 5 minutes in the final commit. Full suite green (1843 + 161), tsc/eslint/prettier clean. 🤖 Generated with [Claude Code](https://claude.com/claude-code) --------- Co-authored-by: Claude Fable 5 <noreply@anthropic.com> |

Gate users without GPU-accelerated WebGL2 instead of running at ~1fps (#4324)
## Problem After the WebGL2 renderer migration, a small number of users (~a dozen of 100k DAU) report ~5fps. Root cause: they run WebGL **without GPU acceleration** (hardware acceleration disabled, blocklisted driver, or a locked-down machine), so they get a SwiftShader/software context. Software-rendered WebGL is hopeless for a real-time game — ~1fps locally. We are not supporting a canvas2d fallback. Instead: demand a GPU-accelerated context, and if we can't get one, **gate** the user with actionable instructions rather than letting the game crawl. ## What this does - **`initGL()`** ([initGL.ts](../blob/webgl-software-render-gate/src/client/render/gl/initGL.ts)) — demands `failIfMajorPerformanceCaveat: true` **and** inspects the unmasked renderer string. The flag alone isn't enough: when hardware acceleration is turned off in browser *settings* (vs. a blocklisted driver), Chrome still hands back a SwiftShader context, so we'd otherwise run at 1fps. Classifies the outcome as `ok` / `software` / `unsupported`. - **`GPURenderer`** throws `GLUnavailableError` on a non-accelerated context; the game-start `catch` shows the gate and removes the orphaned canvas. - **`<webgl-gate>`** Lit component renders a full-screen blocking gate with per-browser steps (Chrome / Edge / Firefox / Safari) for enabling hardware acceleration / WebGL. - **`gl_init` analytics event** fires every session (`status` + `renderer` for non-ok) via the existing Google Tag, so we can size the real affected % within a day. ## Notes / decisions - The gate copy is **intentionally inlined (not translated)** — it's a rarely-seen, browser-specific troubleshooting screen; 28 Crowdin keys would be poor cost/benefit, and a non-English user still has to navigate English browser menus. - `showGLGate` lazy-loads the component (`import()`), so the `render/gl` module that `Renderer.ts` imports doesn't statically pull a UI component into its graph. ## Update: fingerprint-capped contexts (#4357) A third failure class, integrated after the initial PR: `privacy.resistFingerprinting` (default-on in LibreWolf and Mullvad Browser, opt-in in Firefox) caps `MAX_TEXTURE_SIZE` at 2048 on an otherwise hardware-accelerated context. The renderer unconditionally allocates a 4096-wide palette texture, so the oversized `texImage2D` calls fail silently and the whole map renders **black** (#4357). - `initGL` now reads `MAX_TEXTURE_SIZE` after the software check and classifies the context as **`limited`** when it's below `getPaletteSize()` (4096 — the hard floor every game needs). - Unlike `software`/`unsupported`, **`limited` is a warning, not a hard block**: `initGL` still returns the context, the game starts normally, and the gate is shown with a "Continue anyway" button. `GPURenderer` exposes the capped renderer/size via `glLimited` (surfaced through `MapRenderer`), which `ClientGameRunner` uses to show the warning and log analytics. - The gate shows fingerprinting-specific instructions for `limited` (add the site to `privacy.resistFingerprinting.exemptedDomains` in `about:config`) instead of the hardware-acceleration steps. - `gl_init` reports `max_texture_size` alongside the renderer for this status, so we can size the RFP-affected population too. Fixes #4357 ## Test plan - [x] Unit tests for `initGL`'s `ok` / `software` / `unsupported` branching, incl. the "returns a context but renderer is software" case (`tests/client/initGL.test.ts`). - [x] lint / prettier / tsc clean. - [x] **Verified in real browsers (macOS).** All three gate states reproduced: - `software`: Chrome with `--use-gl=angle --use-angle=swiftshader` (confirmed "Software only" at `chrome://gpu`), and Chrome with hardware acceleration toggled off in settings — both show the hard gate instead of a 1fps game. - `unsupported`: Firefox with `webgl.disabled=true` shows the unsupported gate. - `limited`: Firefox with `privacy.resistFingerprinting=true` (MAX_TEXTURE_SIZE capped to 2048, same as LibreWolf's default) shows the dismissible warning; "Continue anyway" starts the game, and exempting the site via `privacy.resistFingerprinting.exemptedDomains` removes the warning. ## Acceptance criteria - Accelerated users: unchanged. - Software / no-accel users: see the enable-acceleration gate, not a 1fps game. - No-WebGL2 users: see the unsupported gate. - `gl_init` fires every session with status (+ renderer for non-ok). 🤖 Generated with [Claude Code](https://claude.com/claude-code) --------- Co-authored-by: Claude Opus 4.8 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com> |

feat: effects cosmetic category (transport-ship trail) + UI (#4418)
## What Adds a new **`effects`** cosmetic category alongside `skins`/`flags`. Each effect is discriminated by **`effectType`** (only `transportShipTrail` today), whose visual config lives in **`attributes`** (`solid` / `rainbow` / `pulse` / `gradient`). Schema matches the production cosmetics.json shape exactly (incl. the `url` field). **This PR is UI + taxonomy only — the in-game WebGL trail rendering is intentionally deferred.** ## UI - **Store** gains an **"Effects"** tab. - **Home page** gains an **"Effects"** button opening a picker modal. - Both render effects **grouped by `effectType` with a sub-header per type**, via a shared `<effects-grid>` Lit element (`mode="select"` for the picker, `mode="purchase"` for the store). The picker shows owned effects + a Default tile and persists per-type; the store shows purchasable effects. ## Data flow - Ownership via `effect:*` / `effect:<name>` flares (reuses `cosmeticRelationship`). - Selection is a per-`effectType` map persisted in UserSettings (`settings.effects`). - Server validates in `isEffectAllowed`, wired into `isAllowed`. - `getPlayerCosmeticsRefs` / `getPlayerCosmetics` resolve effects the same way as skins/flags (kept-on-fetch-failure, server is authority). ## Tests - `tsc --noEmit`, ESLint, Prettier clean; full suite green. - New: `CosmeticSchemas` parse tests (incl. parsing the **real** `read_transport_trail` entry), `UserSettings` per-type selection, and `Privilege` effect validation. ## Notes / follow-ups - The effect's display label shows **"Boat Trail"** for the `transportShipTrail` type (friendlier than the id). - Closed-source API gap: `/shop/purchase` (`purchaseWithCurrency`) needs to learn `"effect"` for **currency** purchase of effects; the **dollar/product** purchase path already works. Client types were widened accordingly. - In-game wake rendering can be ported from #4416. 🤖 Generated with [Claude Code](https://claude.com/claude-code) --------- Co-authored-by: Claude Opus 4.8 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com> |

Login with Google — client UI (#4028) (#4279)
Resolves #4028 (client half — backend is openfrontio/infra#368, which must be deployed first). ## Description: Adds "Login with Google" to the client, alongside the existing Discord login. Companion to the backend PR (openfrontio/infra#368). - `Auth.ts` — `googleLogin()` (full-page redirect to `/auth/login/google?redirect_uri=…`, mirrors `discordLogin()`). - `ApiSchemas.ts` — `GoogleUserSchema` + optional `user.google` on `UserMeResponseSchema`. - `AccountModal.ts` — a "Login with Google" button (Google brand guidelines: white surface, dark text, the multicolor "G" mark) in the login options, and the logged-in view now renders a Google-authenticated user's email (also added `google` to `isLinkedAccount()`). - `en.json` — `main.login_google`. - `resources/images/GoogleLogo.svg` — the Google "G" mark. > **Draft.** Depends on infra#368 being deployed (the button hits the live `/auth/login/google`). ## Please complete the following: - [x] I have added screenshots for all UI updates <!-- TODO: add screenshot of the Google button --> - [x] I process any text displayed to the user through translateText() and I've added it to the en.json file - [x] I have added relevant tests to the test directory <!-- no client tests exist for AccountModal/Auth; verified via tsc --noEmit + eslint. Backend behaviour is covered in infra#368 --> ## Please put your Discord username so you can be contacted if a bug or regression is found: jish |

Replace dark mode with player-adjustable lighting (#4280)
## What Removes the binary **dark mode** feature and replaces it with a player-adjustable **Lighting** section in graphics settings. ### In-game settings - Removed the Dark Mode toggle from both `SettingsModal` and `UserSettingModal`, and `darkMode()`/`toggleDarkMode()`/`DARK_MODE_KEY` from `UserSettings`. ### New Lighting section (Graphics Settings) - **Ambient light** slider (1–3): mapped to the renderer's ambient as `ambient = 1 / level`. **1.0 = no effect (unchanged look), 3.0 = darkest with the strongest structure glow.** - **Light falloff** slider (1–3): writes straight to `lighting.falloffPower`. - Lighting auto-enables only when ambient < 1, so the default (slider at 1) has zero GPU cost — off by default. ### Removed dark-mode overrides - Deleted `applyDarkModeOverride()` + `DARK_AMBIENT` and their wiring in `ClientGameRunner`, `gl/index.ts`, and the `DARK_MODE_KEY` listener. - Removed the `.dark` HUD-class toggle in `Main.ts` and the `userSettings.darkMode()` read in `PlayerIcons`. ### Train glow - `UT_TRAIN` light reduced (intensity `2.0 → 0.5`, radius `8 → 6`) so structures dominate the glow. ## Notes - Removing the dark-mode setting also retires the HUD's Tailwind dark theme (same setting). The dormant `dark:` CSS variants and unused white-icon assets are left in place (out of scope). 🤖 Generated with [Claude Code](https://claude.com/claude-code) --------- Co-authored-by: Claude Opus 4.8 <noreply@anthropic.com> |

Delayed lobby start (#4184)
Resolves #4169 ## Description: Adds a delayed lobby start option. Utilizes the same system as for public lobbies. The default for the option is for lobbies to take 3 seconds to start, however this can easily be changed. The current setting is controlled through an enable-disable slider, however there are multiple other options for how to control this. For example we could do a slider, an input field, a dropdown etc. And i dont necessarily know if the currently implemented option is the best. Furhtermore im not sure if i have used the language file completely correctly. There is now a duplicate field for both private and public lobby. However there is not category shared between the two. So i decided to reuse the field from public for private games, as this simplified the code a bit. **Host video** https://github.com/user-attachments/assets/6f3db6e4-7323-4fad-8544-efb8cef4d969 **Non-host video** https://github.com/user-attachments/assets/ee02a072-1f42-4dde-a5d9-120fda862eb7 ## Please complete the following: - [X] I have added screenshots for all UI updates - [X] I process any text displayed to the user through translateText() and I've added it to the en.json file - [x] I have added relevant tests to the test directory ## Please put your Discord username so you can be contacted if a bug or regression is found: FrederikJA |

Add modal URL router (#modal=name&tab=key) (#3924)
## Description Adds a modal URL router so modals can be opened, deep-linked, and bookmarked via the hash. URLs of the form `#modal=<name>&tab=<key>&...` open the named modal and pass remaining keys as args to `onOpen`. The reverse direction also syncs: opening a modal via the UI updates the URL, closing it clears the hash, and switching tabs updates `&tab=`. Builds on the BaseModal refactor from #3923. ### What's new **`ModalRouter.ts`** — small registry + two-way sync helper. - `register(name, { tag, pageId? })` declares a modal as router-managed - `routeFromHash()` parses `#modal=...` and dispatches to `modal.open(args)` - `syncOpened/syncClosed/syncTab` push state back into the URL via `history.replaceState` (no history entries) - A `routingFromUrl` flag prevents URL→modal→URL feedback loops - Unknown modal names silently strip the hash **`BaseModal`** — opt-in URL sync via a `routerName` property. - When set, BaseModal calls into `modalRouter.syncOpened/syncClosed/syncTab` from `open` / `close` / `setActiveTab` - Modals that own their own URL state (lobby modals) just leave `routerName` undefined **`Main.ts`** — registers all routable modals and wires the router. - `handleUrl()`: adds a `modalRouter.routeFromHash()` branch after the path-based lobby join - `onHashUpdate`: when the hash is router-managed, routes via the router instead of tearing down lobby state ### Routable modals 13 inline modals: store, settings, leaderboard, clan, account, help, news, language, single-player, ranked, troubleshooting, territory-patterns, flag-input. Excluded by design: join-lobby, host-lobby (own URL state via `/game/<id>`), matchmaking (no URL state). ### Example uses - Deep link to store flags tab: `/#modal=store&tab=flags` - Settings keybinds tab: `/#modal=settings&tab=keybinds` - Cosmetics.ts now redirects to `#modal=store&tab=packs` when a hard-currency purchase fails for insufficient plutonium (after the alert), so users can top up directly ### URL behavior - `replaceState` everywhere — no history entries added when modals open / close / switch tabs - Browser back/forward still works for the existing path-based game flow - `hashchange` events are router-aware so external hash changes (back button, manual edit) correctly switch between routed modals without tearing down lobby state ## Please complete the following: - [x] I have added screenshots for all UI updates _(no visual changes; smoke-tested in dev)_ - [x] I process any text displayed to the user through translateText() and I've added it to the en.json file _(no new user-visible strings)_ - [ ] I have added relevant tests to the test directory _(no test coverage; manually tested URL load, UI open, tab switch, close, hashchange, insufficient-plutonium redirect)_ - [x] I confirm I have thoroughly tested these changes and take full responsibility for any bugs introduced ## Please put your Discord username so you can be contacted if a bug or regression is found: DISCORD_USERNAME |

Refactor modal system: BaseModal renders shell, unified open(args) API (#3923)
## Description
Refactors the modal system so that `BaseModal` owns the `<o-modal>`
shell rendering, tab state, and lifecycle. Modal subclasses now provide
content via small hook methods (`renderHeaderSlot()`, `renderBody(tab)`,
`modalConfig()`) instead of each rebuilding the `<o-modal>` template and
inline-mode branching.
This sets up the foundation for a future modal URL router (e.g.
`#modal=store&tab=flags`), which will be a follow-up PR.
### What changed
**`BaseModal`** — `src/client/components/BaseModal.ts`
- Now renders the `<o-modal>` shell itself; subclasses no longer
duplicate it
- Owns `activeTab` state and dispatches per-tab rendering via
`renderBody(tab)`
- Single `modalConfig()` method returns `{ title?, tabs?, hideHeader?,
hideCloseButton?, alwaysMaximized?, maxWidth? }`
- Uniform `open(args?)` / `close(args?)` interface; subclasses interpret
args in `onOpen(args)` / `onClose(args)`
- Tabbed modals can lazy-load via `onTabEnter(tab)` lifecycle hook
- Re-entrancy guard on `open()` so `showPage()` re-invocations don't
clobber state set by the outer call
- Initial tab defaults to first entry in `modalConfig().tabs` so the
active tab is highlighted on first open
**17 modals migrated** to the new shape:
- Tabbed: Store, UserSetting, Leaderboard, Clan
- Non-tabbed: FlagInput, Account, TokenLogin, News, TerritoryPatterns,
Troubleshooting, SinglePlayer, Matchmaking, RankedModal, Help, Language
- Lobby: JoinLobbyModal, HostLobbyModal (kept their `confirmBeforeClose`
/ `closeAndLeave` / `closeWithoutLeaving` methods)
Per-modal diffs are mostly mechanical:
- Drop the `<o-modal>` wrapper template and the `if (this.inline) return
content` branch
- Drop the inner `<div class="${this.modalContainerClass}">` wrapper
(shell styling now lives on `<o-modal>`)
- Move header content into `renderHeaderSlot()` so it lives in the
sticky header area
- Convert `super.open()`/`super.close()` overrides into
`onOpen(args)`/`onClose(args)` hooks
- For tabbed modals: drop subclass `@state activeTab`, manual
`handleTabChange`, and the `render()` switch — all owned by BaseModal
now
**Other changes:**
- `Store`: in affiliate mode (`#affiliate=X`), tabs are hidden and a
single combined grid of purchasable affiliate items is shown
- `Main.ts`: `joinModal.open(lobbyId, lobbyInfo)` callsites converted to
the new `open({ lobbyId, lobbyInfo })` shape
### Follow-up
Modal URL router (`#modal=X&tab=Y&...`) is a separate PR on top of this
foundation.

Add subscriptions: store tab, account panel, manage/cancel (#3918)
## Summary
- Add a **Subscriptions** tab to the Store. Each tier renders as a
`<cosmetic-button>` with description, daily Pu/Caps amounts, and a
Stripe checkout button driven by the existing `createCheckoutSession`
flow.
- Show the player's active subscription in the **Account modal** via a
new `<subscription-panel>` Lit component (status badge, period-end /
cancel-at-period-end, daily currency breakdown).
- **Manage** button opens the Stripe billing portal in a new tab (`POST
/subscriptions/@me/portal`).
- **Cancel** button (hidden once `cancelAtPeriodEnd === true`) calls
`POST /subscriptions/@me/cancel` after a `confirm()` prompt, then
invalidates the userMe cache and refetches.
- Block re-purchase: clicking Subscribe when the user already has a
`subscription:*` flare alerts "Already subscribed" before opening
checkout (upgrade/downgrade flows are out of scope for now).
- Schema additions:
- `CosmeticsSchema.subscriptions: Record<string, SubscriptionSchema>`
(optional) in `src/core/CosmeticSchemas.ts`.
- `UserMeResponse.player.subscription: { tier, status, currentPeriodEnd,
cancelAtPeriodEnd } | null` in `src/core/ApiSchemas.ts`.
- Translations: new `store.*` and `account_modal.sub_*` keys in
`resources/lang/en.json` (English only — Crowdin handles the rest).

fix(client): block Safari page-level pinch-zoom (#3901)
iOS Safari has ignored the `user-scalable=no` viewport hint since iOS 10, so two-finger pinch still zooms the whole page and can softlock the in-game HUD. Intercept WebKit's non-standard `gesturestart`, `gesturechange` and `gestureend` events at `document` and call `preventDefault()` so the page stays put. The game's own pinch-to-zoom on the map canvas is driven by pointer events (InputHandler) and is unaffected; browsers that do not fire GestureEvent treat the listeners as a no-op. refactor: collapse per-env Configs into ClientEnv + ServerEnv (#3906)
## Description: This is a refactor to simplify config handling. Replaces the per-environment DevConfig/PreprodConfig/ProdConfig class hierarchy with two static classes: ClientEnv (browser main thread, reads from window.BOOTSTRAP_CONFIG) and ServerEnv (Node server, reads from process.env). The four config classes are deleted, the abstract DefaultServerConfig is gone, and DefaultConfig is renamed to Config. The values that flow server → client (gameEnv, numWorkers, turnstileSiteKey, jwtAudience, instanceId) used to be baked into the hardcoded per-env classes. They're now real env vars on the server, embedded into a single window.BOOTSTRAP_CONFIG object in index.html at request time (alongside the existing gitCommit/assetManifest/cdnBase globals, which moved into the same object), and read back by ClientEnv on the client. The dev defaults previously hidden inside DevServerConfig are now explicit in start:server-dev (NUM_WORKERS=2, TURNSTILE_SITE_KEY=1x..., JWT_AUDIENCE=localhost, etc.) and in vite.config.ts's html plugin inject.data. Production deploys plumb NUM_WORKERS and TURNSTILE_SITE_KEY through deploy.yml (GitHub vars) into the remote env file; JWT_AUDIENCE is derived from DOMAIN in deploy.sh. The dynamic /api/instance endpoint is gone — INSTANCE_ID rides along in BOOTSTRAP_CONFIG now. ServerEnv is the only thing server code touches; ClientEnv is browser-only. The two classes have intentional overlap (env, numWorkers, jwtIssuer, gameCreationRate, workerIndex, etc.) since they derive identical logic from different sources — there's a TODO in each to consolidate via a shared helper later. The game-logic Config no longer stores a ServerConfig/ClientEnv reference and its serverConfig() getter is gone; the one caller (MultiTabModal) now reads ClientEnv.env() directly. Worker init no longer carries server-config values since nothing in the worker actually reads them. ## Please complete the following: - [x] I have added screenshots for all UI updates - [x] I process any text displayed to the user through translateText() and I've added it to the en.json file - [x] I have added relevant tests to the test directory - [x] I confirm I have thoroughly tested these changes and take full responsibility for any bugs introduced ## Please put your Discord username so you can be contacted if a bug or regression is found: evan |

Clan System Part 2 - UI (#3625)
## Description: Continuation from #3276 Adds the complete client-side clan UI as a Lit web component (`<clan-modal>`), a typed API client with Zod-validated responses, shared response schemas, and a reusable `<confirm-dialog>` component. ### New: `ClanModal.ts` | View | What it does | |------|-------------| | **My Clans** | Lists joined clans + pending join requests (built from `/users/@me`, no extra fetches) | | **Browse** | Search by tag (min 3 chars), paginated results, configurable per-page (10/25/50) | | **Clan Detail** | Stats, paginated + searchable member list, role badges, join/leave/request actions | | **Manage** | Edit name (max 35 chars) + description, toggle open/invite-only, disband | | **Transfer** | Leadership transfer with member selector + confirmation | | **Requests** | Approve/deny join requests (leader/officer) | | **Bans** | View and unban (leader/officer) | | **My Requests** | View and withdraw outgoing requests | ### New: `ConfirmDialog.ts` Reusable `<confirm-dialog>` Lit component — replaces native `confirm()`/`prompt()` which are blocked or broken on mobile and CrazyGames iframes. Supports danger/warning variants and an optional textarea (used for ban reasons). Fires `confirm`/`cancel` events. ### New: `ClanApi.ts` Typed API client covering all clan endpoints. Every response is Zod-validated. Auth header is always last in the spread (can't be overridden by callers). Unknown server error messages always fall back to a generic client-side string — never displayed verbatim. ### New: `ClanApiSchemas.ts` (in `src/core/`) Shared Zod schemas for clan API responses with max-length constraints on `name` (35) and `description` (200). Lives in `core/` so it can be consumed by both client code and the leaderboard table. ### Modified: `ApiSchemas.ts` - Added `clans` and `clanRequests` arrays to `UserMeResponseSchema` - Moved clan leaderboard schemas out to `ClanApiSchemas.ts` - Renamed `LeaderboardClanTagSchema` → `RequiredClanTagSchema` ### Modified: `Api.ts` - Added `invalidateUserMe()` to bust the cached `/users/me` response after mutations - Removed `fetchClanLeaderboard` (moved to `ClanApi.ts`) ### Tests - `ClanModal.test.ts` — rendering, view navigation, user actions - `ClanApiQueries.test.ts` — fetch functions, error handling, pagination - `ClanApiMutations.test.ts` — join, leave, kick, ban, promote, transfer, etc. - `ClanApiBans.test.ts` — ban/unban calls and error paths - `ClanApiSchemas.test.ts` — Zod schema validation edge cases - `LeaderboardModal.test.ts` — updated imports ## Notable design decisions - **Not-logged-in state** — shows "Sign in to join clans" instead of false "no clans" empty state - **Rate limit feedback** — reads `Retry-After` header and surfaces wait time to the user ## Please complete the following: - [x] I have added screenshots for all UI updates - [x] I process any text displayed to the user through translateText() and I've added it to the en.json file - [x] I have added relevant tests to the test directory - [x] I confirm I have thoroughly tested these changes and take full responsibility for any bugs introduced ## Please put your Discord username so you can be contacted if a bug or regression is found: w.o.n --------- Co-authored-by: evanpelle <evanpelle@gmail.com> |

Perf/Refactor(UserSettings): caching makes it 10-20x faster (#3481)
## Description: Skip slow and blocking LocalStorage reads, replace by a Map. Also some refactoring. ### Contains - No out-of-sync issue between main and worker thread: Earlier PRs got a comment from evan about main & worker.worker thread having their own version of usersettings and possibly getting out-of-sync (see https://github.com/openfrontio/OpenFrontIO/pull/760#pullrequestreview-2845155737, https://github.com/openfrontio/OpenFrontIO/pull/896#pullrequestreview-2871836979 and https://github.com/openfrontio/OpenFrontIO/pull/1266. But userSettings is not used in files ran by worker.worker, not even 10 months after evan's first comment about it. In GameRunner, createGameRunner sends NULL to getConfig as argument for userSettings. And DefaultConfig guards against userSettings being null by throwing an error, but it has never been thrown which points to worker.worker thread not using userSettings. So we do not need to worry about syncing between the threads currently. (If needed in the future after all, we could quite easily sync it, by loading the userSettings cache on worker.worker and listening to the "user-settings-changed" event @scamiv to keep it synced (changes in WorkerMessages and WorkerClient etc would be needed to handle this). - Went with cache in UserSettings, not with listening to "user-settings-changed" event: "user-settings-changed" was added by @scamiv and is used in PerformanceOverlay. Which is great for single files that need the very best performance. But having to add that same system to any file reading settings, scales poorly and would lead to messy code. Also, a developer could make the mistake of not listening to the event and it would end up just reading LocalStorage again just like now. Also a developer might forget removing the listener or so etc. The cache is a central solution and fast, without changes to other files needed and future-proof. - Make sure each setting is cached: UserSettingsModal was using LocalStorage directly by itself for some things. Made it use the central UserSettings methods instead so we avoid LocalStorage reads as much as possible. For this, changed get() and set() in UserSettings to getBool() and setBool(), to introduce a getString() and setString() for use in UserSettingsModal while keeping getCached() and setCached() private within UserSettings. - Remove unused 'focusLocked' and 'toggleFocusLocked' from UserSettings: was last changed 11 months ago to just return false. Since then we've moved to different ways of highlighting and this setting isn't used anymore. No existing references or callers are left. - Other files: -- Have callers call the renamed functions (see point above) -- Remove userSettings from UILayer and Territorylayer: the variable is unused in those files. Also remove from GameRenderer when it calls TerritoryLayer. -- Cache calls to defaultconfig Theme (which in turn calls dark mode setting)/Config better in: GameView and Terrainlayer. ### Update on Contents later on It wasn't really in scope of this PR but further consolidation was called for. These changes could also pave the way for UserSettingsModal (main menu) perhaps being partly mergable with SettingsModal (in-game) one day as it begins to look more like it. Even though UserSettingsModal still does things its own way, and does console.log where SettingsModal doesn't, etc. They both have partially different content and settings but also have a large overlap. - UserSettings: Removed localStorage call from clearFlag() and setFlag() which were added after creation of this PR, and were neatly merged in silence without merge conflicts so i wasn't aware of them yet until now. - UserSettings: added key constants, exported to use both inside UserSettings and in files that listen to its events. - UserSettings 'emitChange': now done from setCached, removed from setBool, setFlag etc. Also removed from the new setFlag. And from setPattern even though it emitted "pattern" instead of key name "territoryPattern"; now it emits the default "territoryPattern" from PATTERN_KEY which is re-used in Store, TerritoryPatternsModal and PatternInput. - UserSettingsModal: made UserSettingsModal call existing toggle functions in UserSettings, or new or existing getter or setter. We do not need CustomEvent: checked anymore. In UserSettingsModal, its toggle functions did not all actually toggle, some like toggleLeftClickOpensMenu actually just set a value. Based on the 'checked' value of the CustomEvent. But we don't need that 'checked' value anymore and none of the checks for it inside the toggle functions in UserSettingsModal, now that we just directly call toggleLeftClickOpensMenu and others in UserSettings. - SettingToggle: continuing about not needing CustomEvent anymore: the old way actually fired two events. The native change event from <input> and our own CustomEvent from handleChange in SettingToggle. It prevented handling both events by checking e.detail?.checked === undefined. But now, the native <input> event is all we need to show the visual toggle change and trigger @changed in UserSettingsModal which calls the toggle function. - Use the toggle functions too from CopyButton and PerformanceOverlay.ts. In PerformanceOverlay, change in onUserSettingsChanged was needed because of how setBool works. - UserSettingsModal 'toggleDarkMode': in UserSettingsModal, removed the event from toggleDarkMode in UserSettingsModal; nothing is listening to this event anymore after DarkModeButton.ts was removed some time ago. Also both UserSettingsModal an UserSettings added/removed "dark" from the document element. Now that UserSettingsModal calls toggleDarkMode in UserSettings, we could centralize that. But UserSettings is in core, not in client like UserSettingsModal. But now that we emit "user-settings-changed", we could handle it even more centralized and not have UserSettingsModal or UserSettings touch the element directly. Instead have Main.ts listen to the event and change it dark mode from there. - UserSettings: added claryfing comment to attackRatioIncrement and the new attackRatio setters/getters, to explain their difference. Noticed a small omitment in its description and fixed that right away in en.json: you can change attack ratio increment by shift+mouse wheel scroll or by hotkey. So made "How much the attack ratio keybinds change per press" also mention "/scroll." **BEFORE** (with getDisplayName added back to NameLayer as a fix i will do soon) get > getItem in UserSettings renderLayer in NameLayer (with getDisplayName added back to NameLayer as a fix i will do soon) **AFTER** (with getDisplayName added back to NameLayer as a fix i will do soon) getCached in UserSettings renderLayer in NameLayer (with getDisplayName added back to NameLayer as a fix i will do soon) ## Please complete the following: - [x] I have added screenshots for all UI updates - [x] I process any text displayed to the user through translateText() and I've added it to the en.json file - [x] I have added relevant tests to the test directory - [x] I confirm I have thoroughly tested these changes and take full responsibility for any bugs introduced ## Please put your Discord username so you can be contacted if a bug or regression is found: tryout33 |

Split runtime and game logic env loading (#3505)
## Description:
This refactors client configuration loading to make the environment
split explicit.
The app currently has two different env concerns:
- the browser main thread needs the live runtime env to select API /
Turnstile / JWT settings
- the worker and game-logic path need a build-time env to select game
config behavior
Before this change, both responsibilities were hidden behind the same
loader, which made the intent unclear and caused confusion around the
worker fallback behavior.
This PR separates those paths explicitly:
- main-thread browser code now uses `getRuntimeClientServerConfig()`
- game creation and worker/game-logic code now uses
`getGameLogicConfig()`
- the build-time game-logic env is represented explicitly as
`GameLogicEnv`
## What Changed
- Added `GameLogicEnv` to model the build-time game config choice
explicitly.
- Added `getRuntimeClientServerConfig()` for live runtime browser config
from `window.BOOTSTRAP_CONFIG`.
- Added `getBuildTimeGameLogicEnv()` and
`getServerConfigForGameLogicEnv()` for build-time worker/game-logic
config.
- Renamed game config loading from `getConfig()` to
`getGameLogicConfig()` to reflect what it actually does.
- Updated browser call sites to use the runtime client config loader.
- Updated worker/game creation paths to use the game-logic config
loader.
- Updated config loader tests to cover both paths.
## Behavior
This keeps the current intended behavior, but makes it explicit:
- Runtime client env:
- comes from `window.BOOTSTRAP_CONFIG`
- controls live browser integration settings such as API origin,
Turnstile, and JWT audience/issuer
- Build-time game-logic env:
- comes from bundled `process.env.GAME_ENV`
- maps:
- `dev` -> dev game config
- `staging` -> default/prod game config
- `prod` -> default/prod game config
That means preprod/staging deployments can continue using prod game
logic while still using staging API/auth settings on the main thread.
## Why
The previous setup worked, but the naming and loader boundaries were
misleading:
- the same function was used for both runtime browser config and
worker/game config
- the worker fallback looked like an implementation detail instead of an
intentional architectural split
This change makes that intent visible in code without changing the
desired deployment behavior.

Improve cacheability with content-hashed public assets and a cacheable app shell (#3494)
## Description: This reworks asset delivery and cacheability across the app and moves non-bundled public resources onto immutable, content-hashed URLs. Vite bundle outputs continue to live under `/assets/**` and remain content-hashed by Vite. Public resources that were previously fetched from stable paths in `resources/` now go through a custom hashed namespace under `/_assets/**`, backed by a generated asset manifest that is available to the server, browser, and worker runtime. In parallel, the root app shell is now cacheable shared HTML instead of request-time `no-store` HTML. Dynamic and live routes remain explicitly uncached. ## Why - Improve browser and Cloudflare cacheability for static assets. - Remove query-string and release-version cache busting for runtime-fetched assets. - Allow unchanged public assets to keep the same URL across releases. - Reduce avoidable work on `/` by serving a shared app shell instead of rendering HTML on every request. - Make cache behavior explicit instead of relying on mixed framework defaults and file-extension heuristics. ## What Changed ### 1. Content-hashed public asset pipeline - Added a build-time public asset manifest and hashing pipeline for non-Vite resources. - Production now emits hashed public assets under `/_assets/**`. - Added runtime manifest loading for Node so server-rendered paths resolve against built hashed files instead of rebuilding from source at runtime. - Emitted the runtime asset manifest as an ESM module for server consumption. Result: - `/assets/**` = Vite-managed hashed bundle outputs - `/_assets/**` = custom content-hashed public resources ### 2. Runtime asset URL migration - Added a shared `assetUrl(...)` resolution path. - Migrated runtime references away from query-string versioning and stable source paths. - Updated browser, worker, and server-side rendering paths to resolve through the asset manifest. - Moved map manifests, map binaries, thumbnails, sprites, sounds, fonts, flags, icons, screenshots, and other runtime-fetched resources onto hashed URLs. ### 3. Map and preview fixes - Fixed directory and per-file map asset resolution so map manifest and binary fetches resolve to the correct hashed URLs. - Updated preview metadata and map thumbnail paths to use the hashed asset namespace. - Fixed runtime manifest loading in prod after deployment. ### 4. Explicit cache policies - Added explicit immutable cache headers for: - `/assets/**` - `/_assets/**` - worker-prefixed equivalents under `/wN/...` - Added explicit `no-store` headers for live and dynamic APIs. - Removed the old `/api/env` bootstrap request and baked `gameEnv` into the HTML bootstrap instead. ### 5. Cacheable root app shell - Refactored the root HTML path to serve a shared app shell with: - `Cache-Control: public, max-age=0, s-maxage=300, stale-while-revalidate=86400` - `/` and the SPA fallback now serve shared cacheable HTML instead of request-time `no-store` rendering. - `/game/:id` remains dynamic and `no-store`, but now reuses the shared shell before injecting preview tags. ### 6. Matchmaking instance handling - Because the app shell is now cacheable, `INSTANCE_ID` was removed from shared HTML. - Added `/api/instance` as a temporary `no-store` runtime lookup used only by matchmaking. - This preserves correctness with the current random-per-boot `INSTANCE_ID` model while keeping `/` cacheable, but it is not the intended long-term design. ## Behavior Changes ### Asset URL contract Production URLs for non-Vite public resources now change from stable paths such as: - `/maps/...` - `/images/...` - `/manifest.json` to content-hashed paths under: - `/_assets/...` Examples: - `/_assets/maps/<map>/manifest.<hash>.json` - `/_assets/images/Favicon.<hash>.svg` ### Bootstrap/config - `/api/env` is removed. - `gameEnv` is now bootstrapped from HTML. ### HTML caching - `/` and the SPA fallback are now cacheable shared HTML. - `/game/:id` remains dynamic. ## Cache Matrix After This Branch - `/_assets/**`: `public, max-age=31536000, immutable` - `/assets/**`: `public, max-age=31536000, immutable` - live `/api/**`: explicit `no-store` - `/api/health`: explicit `no-store` - `/api/instance`: explicit `no-store` - `/game/:id`: explicit `no-store` - `/` and SPA fallback: `public, max-age=0, s-maxage=300, stale-while-revalidate=86400` ## Notes / Tradeoffs - `/api/instance` is a temporary compromise. It exists because `INSTANCE_ID` is currently random per boot, which is not safe to embed into cacheable shared HTML. - The current matchmaking flow still asks the client to provide `instance_id` during `matchmaking/join`. That is functional, but it is the wrong ownership boundary: instance selection should be handled by the matchmaking service, not by the browser. - The cleaner end-state would be: - make `matchmaking/join` stop requiring `instance_id` from the client, and let the matchmaking service select a healthy instance from worker check-ins - This branch makes the origin behavior edge-cache-friendly, but Cloudflare still needs matching cache rules if HTML itself should be cached at the edge. ## Validation Verified during development with: - `npx tsc --noEmit` - `node node_modules\\vite\\bin\\vite.js build` - `node node_modules\\vitest\\vitest.mjs run tests/server/RenderHtml.test.ts tests/server/NoStoreHeaders.test.ts tests/server/StaticAssetCache.test.ts tests/core/configuration/ConfigLoader.test.ts` Additional targeted tests added: - `tests/AssetUrls.test.ts` - `tests/core/game/FetchGameMapLoader.test.ts` - `tests/core/configuration/ConfigLoader.test.ts` - `tests/server/NoStoreHeaders.test.ts` - `tests/server/StaticAssetCache.test.ts` - `tests/server/RenderHtml.test.ts` ## Known Existing Warnings The production build still reports pre-existing warnings that are not addressed by this branch: - inconsistent JSON import attributes for `resources/countries.json` - inconsistent JSON import attributes for `resources/QuickChat.json` - large chunk warnings from Vite ## Rollout Notes - Cache rules should treat `/_assets/**` and `/assets/**` as immutable. - Cloudflare will still classify HTML as dynamic after deploy unless matching edge cache rules are configured for it. ## Follow-ups - Remove `/api/instance` by changing `matchmaking/join` so the server selects the target instance, or by making `INSTANCE_ID` deploy-stable if the current contract must remain. ## Please complete the following: - [ ] I have added screenshots for all UI updates - [ ] I process any text displayed to the user through translateText() and I've added it to the en.json file - [ ] I have added relevant tests to the test directory - [ ] I confirm I have thoroughly tested these changes and take full responsibility for any bugs introduced ## Please put your Discord username so you can be contacted if a bug or regression is found: DISCORD_USERNAME |
