Evan 275fd0dccc refactor: collapse per-env Configs into ClientEnv + ServerEnv (#3906)
## Description:

This is a refactor to simplify config handling.

Replaces the per-environment DevConfig/PreprodConfig/ProdConfig class
hierarchy with two static classes: ClientEnv (browser main thread, reads
from window.BOOTSTRAP_CONFIG) and ServerEnv (Node server, reads from
process.env). The four config classes are deleted, the abstract
DefaultServerConfig is gone, and DefaultConfig is renamed to Config.

The values that flow server → client (gameEnv, numWorkers,
turnstileSiteKey, jwtAudience, instanceId) used to be baked into the
hardcoded per-env classes. They're now real env vars on the server,
embedded into a single window.BOOTSTRAP_CONFIG object in index.html at
request time (alongside the existing gitCommit/assetManifest/cdnBase
globals, which moved into the same object), and read back by ClientEnv
on the client. The dev defaults previously hidden inside DevServerConfig
are now explicit in start:server-dev (NUM_WORKERS=2,
TURNSTILE_SITE_KEY=1x..., JWT_AUDIENCE=localhost, etc.) and in
vite.config.ts's html plugin inject.data. Production deploys plumb
NUM_WORKERS and TURNSTILE_SITE_KEY through deploy.yml (GitHub vars) into
the remote env file; JWT_AUDIENCE is derived from DOMAIN in deploy.sh.
The dynamic /api/instance endpoint is gone — INSTANCE_ID rides along in
BOOTSTRAP_CONFIG now.

ServerEnv is the only thing server code touches; ClientEnv is
browser-only. The two classes have intentional overlap (env, numWorkers,
jwtIssuer, gameCreationRate, workerIndex, etc.) since they derive
identical logic from different sources — there's a TODO in each to
consolidate via a shared helper later. The game-logic Config no longer
stores a ServerConfig/ClientEnv reference and its serverConfig() getter
is gone; the one caller (MultiTabModal) now reads ClientEnv.env()
directly. Worker init no longer carries server-config values since
nothing in the worker actually reads them.

Evan 4889cb83a0 ci: fail PRs when generated maps are out of date (#3876)
## Description:

## Summary
- Adds a `gen-maps` job to the CI workflow that runs `npm run gen-maps`
(Go map generator + prettier) and fails the check if the working tree
has any diff afterwards.
- The failure annotation tells the author to run `npm run gen-maps`
locally and commit the result, so stale generated maps can't slip
through review.
- Pulls the Go toolchain version from `map-generator/go.mod` so the CI
version stays in sync with the module automatically.

Evan 94205426e7 Move turnstile check to api (#3845)
## Description

Re-enables Turnstile verification (was temporarily disabled in v31 to
diagnose intermittent `invalid-input-response` rejections) and moves the
verification call off the game servers.

Game servers no longer hold `TURNSTILE_SECRET_KEY` or hit
`challenges.cloudflare.com` directly. Instead they POST to
`${jwtIssuer}/turnstile` on the api-worker (authenticated with the
existing `apiKey`), which holds the secret and proxies to Cloudflare.
Shrinks blast radius and removes the secret from every game host + GH
Actions workflow.

Response from the api-worker is Zod-validated; null tokens short-circuit
to `rejected` locally.

## Please complete the following:

- [x] I have added screenshots for all UI updates (n/a — server only)
- [x] I process any text displayed to the user through translateText()
(n/a — no user-visible text)
- [ ] I have added relevant tests to the test directory

responsibility for any bugs introduced

Evan 4aa726cfd8 Serve hashed assets from R2 via CDN_BASE (#3773)
## Description:

Add an optional CDN_BASE env var that prefixes hashed asset URLs from
asset-manifest.json, so the app can serve static assets from R2/CDN
instead of the app origin. The value is determined at runtime via the
EJS template (window.CDN_BASE) — empty string means "same origin,"
matching today's behavior.

A hack to load the worker bundle:

A same-origin Blob script that dynamic-import()s the cross-origin worker
module and buffers early postMessage calls until the imported module's
handler attaches, sidestepping the browser's refusal to construct a
Worker directly from a cross-origin URL.

## Description:

Fix: only run the deploy action within our repo. It was already meant to

This lead to errors in repos with a fork, because it would run but
couldn't find the needed secrets there of course.

<h2>v9.0.0</h2>
<p><strong>New features:</strong></p>
<ul>
<li><strong><code>getOctokit</code> factory function</strong> —
Available directly in the script context. Create additional
authenticated Octokit clients with different tokens for multi-token
workflows, GitHub App tokens, and cross-org access. See <a
href="https://github.com/actions/github-script#creating-additional-clients-with-getoctokit">Creating
additional clients with <code>getOctokit</code></a> for details and
examples.</li>
<li><strong>Orchestration ID in user-agent</strong> — The
<code>ACTIONS_ORCHESTRATION_ID</code> environment variable is
automatically appended to the user-agent string for request
tracing.</li>
</ul>
<p><strong>Breaking changes:</strong></p>
<ul>
<li><strong><code>require('@actions/github')</code> no longer works in
scripts.</strong> The upgrade to <code>@actions/github</code> v9
(ESM-only) means <code>require('@actions/github')</code> will fail at
runtime. If you previously used patterns like <code>const { getOctokit }
= require('@actions/github')</code> to create secondary clients, use the
new injected <code>getOctokit</code> function instead — it's available
directly in the script context with no imports needed.</li>
<li><code>getOctokit</code> is now an injected function parameter.
Scripts that declare <code>const getOctokit = ...</code> or <code>let
getOctokit = ...</code> will get a <code>SyntaxError</code> because
JavaScript does not allow <code>const</code>/<code>let</code>
redeclaration of function parameters. Use the injected
<code>getOctokit</code> directly, or use <code>var getOctokit =
...</code> if you need to redeclare it.</li>
<li>If your script accesses other <code>@actions/github</code> internals
beyond the standard <code>github</code>/<code>octokit</code> client, you
may need to update those references for v9 compatibility.</li>
</ul>

VariableVince 4814c42c3b Dependabot: check for go dependency security updates too (#3660)
## Description:

Let dependabot also check for security updates for go dependencies
periodically.

Even though we only use go in map-generator and it's only one dependency
currently, still good to catch security updates.

## Please complete the following:

- [x] I have added screenshots for all UI updates
- [x] I process any text displayed to the user through translateText()
and I've added it to the en.json file
- [x] I have added relevant tests to the test directory
- [x] I confirm I have thoroughly tested these changes and take full
responsibility for any bugs introduced

## Please put your Discord username so you can be contacted if a bug or
regression is found:

<h2>v7.0.0</h2>
<h2>v7 What's new</h2>
<h3>Direct Uploads</h3>
<p>Adds support for uploading single files directly (unzipped). Callers
can set the new <code>archive</code> parameter to <code>false</code> to
skip zipping the file during upload. Right now, we only support single
files. The action will fail if the glob passed resolves to multiple
files. The <code>name</code> parameter is also ignored with this
setting. Instead, the name of the artifact will be the name of the

VariableVince c77b4da313 Dependabot: monthly grouped PR if there are Github Actions updates (#3565)
## Description:

To save on manual work, have Dependabot check monthly and create a
grouped PR for Github Actions updates. Hat tip @deshack for the tip and
grouping suggestion.

- For example we can update `actions/checkout@v5` to
`actions/checkout@v6` already and now Dependabot will propose to do that
for us. The first PR for this and other updates can be expected once
this PR has been merged.

-
https://docs.github.com/en/code-security/how-tos/secure-your-supply-chain/secure-your-dependencies/keeping-your-actions-up-to-date-with-dependabot
- Added brackets round the wildcard for patterns, as a bugfix for
reports such as these:
https://github.com/dependabot/dependabot-core/issues/13919. Bugfix comes
from:
https://discord.com/channels/1359946986937258015/1483653625342464071/1489364119009366240

- (To be clear, this does NOT add creating Version updates PRs for
dependencies, that is other functionality that works differently and we
don't have it enabled:
https://docs.github.com/en/code-security/how-tos/secure-your-supply-chain/secure-your-dependencies/configuring-dependabot-version-updates.
It also does not touch our currently enabled Security updates.)

VariableVince 8e6c0c1132 Chore:Deprecation of Node 20: migrate actions in workflows to Node 24 versions (#3460)
## Description:

Node 20 will reach EOL in April 2026. Node.js 20 actions are deprecated
and will be forced to run on Node.js 24 starting June 2, 2026:
https://github.blog/changelog/2025-09-19-deprecation-of-node-20-on-github-actions-runners/

Update our workflows in this PR.

- For _deployment-action_ and _deployment-status_: stop using these and
. They seem quite unmaintained which could pose risks and there is no
Node 24 version yet:
https://github.com/chrnorm/deployment-action/issues/93 and
https://github.com/chrnorm/deployment-status/issues/53. It will probably
be updated to Node 24, but why wait if we don't actually need to be
dependent on them per se.

- Instead of the above, use actions/github-script@v8 with default API.
Maybe a bit more maintainance work, if any, but better than to be
dependent on unmaintained outside actions. For reference see
https://docs.github.com/en/rest/deployments/deployments?apiVersion=2026-03-10#create-a-deployment

- For _auto-author-assign_, use v3.0.1
(4d585cc37690897bd9015942ed6e766aa7cdb97f). From v3.0.0 it uses Node 24:
https://github.com/toshimaru/auto-author-assign/releases

- For _stale_, use v10.2.0 (b5d41d4e1d5dceea10e7104786b73624c18a190f).
From v10.0.0 it uses Node 24: https://github.com/actions/stale/releases

- For other actions, use their appropriate version for Node 24.

- Tested all with FORCE_JAVASCRIPT_ACTIONS_TO_NODE24=true

FedotCompot 3762b16009 feat: additional tag added to build.sh + latest tag added on new releases (#2399)
## Description:

Added the possibility to have an additional docker version tag in the
`build.sh` script
Added `latest` as an additional version tag when building and publishing
a docker image for a new release

The conditional in the github action is taken as is from the original
docs example:

https://docs.github.com/en/actions/reference/workflows-and-actions/expressions#example

The conditional bash expression has been tested locally with mock data
using a partial `test.sh` script containing only the affected lines and
necessary variables for testing without the `--push` option. I confirm
that the produced result is as expected with or without the new option
provided

Loymdayddaud b6758894b3 Tag inactive pull requests as stale (#1993)
## Description:

Adds a new action to check pull requests every day. If there hasn't been
any action taken in three weeks, the PR gets the `stale` label. Replaces
#1183 and should help with #962.
This action uses a `start date` so that already-existing PRs aren't
affected.

**Before Merging** there should be a discussion: do we want to add
labels indicating who PRs are waiting on? We could add `waiting on
triage` & `waiting on author`/`waiting on OP`, and use actions to
add/remove those labels.
